Plea agreement reached in 2017 infant daycare death case

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Prosecutors have agreed to a plea agreement with defense attorneys for a Springfield woman charged with 34 counts of child abuse, neglect or endangerment.

Cheri Beason was to have gone on trial today (Jan. 25) but the trial was canceled late Wednesday when the agreement was formalized, according to online court records.

Details of the agreement are not included in online records. A judge is to announce on Feb. 6 whether the agreement will be accepted, records show.

Court documents say Beason’s daughter Danielle Gerdes was the single person left at Books & Blocks Child Care to care for 25 minors the day that four-month-old Brynlee Jones died on Aug. 10, 2017. She and Beason operated the daycare in Rogersville.

The family of Brynlee Jones said the plea agreement is for 120 days in jail and five years of probation.

Gerdes faces similar charges and her case remains open. She is to appear in court for a case management conference on Feb. 6, according to court documents.
