Local school districts fight back against teacher shortages

REPUBLIC, Mo. — As labor shortages continue to affect the workforce, a few schools are taking a proactive approach to recruiting potential employees.

This week the Ozark School District hosted a hiring event and the Republic School District plans to host one next week.

For Republic, this will be the district’s second job fair this school year.

Superintendent Dr. Matt Pearce said this is a great way for applicants to get an early look at the school district and meet other teachers.

“We talk about our values, we talk about our goals, the culture of our district and so we are showcasing ourselves to make sure that people understand what we are all about and see if they are a good fit to come and work with us at Republic schools,” said Pearce.

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, 45% of public schools feel that they are understaffed.

In Missouri, as lawmakers continue to discuss increasing teacher pay, local school districts are coming up with their own ways to find quality candidates.
