The historic Bentley House is located at 603 East Calhoun in Springfield, Missouri. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 14, 1980. According to the Redfin real estate website, this house was last sold in November 2004. It is privately owned.
In 1977, Drury College which must have owned the house offered to rent the Bentley House out for the Bicentennial Historical Museum. The museum moved into the house and was renamed the Museum of the Ozarks. Two years later, the museum purchased the building.
In 1993, the Bentley House was sold because the museum needed more space and relocated to the Old City Hall for 15 years. Later, in 2008, the museum moved to the city’s downtown square.
The Bentley House
This two-story house was constructed in 1892. It has various porches and a porte cochere. The house was built for Jewett F. G. Bentley by the Davis Planing Mill Company. At the time, it was a fabulous home. Bentley was the President of The Bank of Springfield, vice-president of The National Loan & Investment Company, and Treasurer of the Metropolitan Street Railway, among other roles.
