Monday, January 29: Mostly mild week with limited rain chances

We made it to 47 degrees yesterday in Springfield under sunny skies. We’ll keep warming things up today with many spots making the mid to upper 50s with sunshine continuing. Winds today may be slightly breezy at 10 to 15 mph from the west-southwest.

A cold front will quietly sneak through tonight. Temperatures tonight will be in the low to mid-30s with a cooler day expected Tuesday. Plan for temperatures in the upper 40s on Tuesday with breezy northwest winds and a few more clouds in the sky as a storm system drupes to our east.

The skies clear again by Wednesday and temperatures rebound to the low to mid-50s. We’ll make a run at 60 degrees on Thursday. A weak piece of energy may squeak out a few spotty rain showers going late Thursday into Friday, but the area should remain dry.

We could see rain showers this weekend while temperatures cool slightly. The data this morning is undecided on how far south this storm will go. Right now, I would place southern Missouri and northern Arkansas on the northern edge of the rain chances. Should the storm keep tracking farther south we may not be dealing with much moisture, but cooler temperatures.
