Springfield man sentenced for Git N’ Go shooting

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. ā€” A Springfield man has been sentenced for a shooting outside a convenience store on South Jefferson Avenue last year.

Tavian Cannon, 24, was arrested in March 2023 and charged with first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action.

Online documents show Cannon appeared in court on Jan. 29, 2024. He withdrew his not-guilty plea and instead pleaded guilty to assault and unlawful use of a weapon. The other two charges were dropped.

Cannon was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The Springfield Police Department (SPD) responded to reports of shots fired at the Git Nā€™ Go on S. Jefferson Ave. on March 12, 2023. Officers arrived to find a victim with a gunshot wound to the chest.

The victim told police that he and Cannon had argued before the shooting.
