SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A Springfield man has been sentenced for a shooting outside a convenience store on South Jefferson Avenue last year.
Tavian Cannon, 24, was arrested in March 2023 and charged with first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action.

Online documents show Cannon appeared in court on Jan. 29, 2024. He withdrew his not-guilty plea and instead pleaded guilty to assault and unlawful use of a weapon. The other two charges were dropped.
Cannon was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
The Springfield Police Department (SPD) responded to reports of shots fired at the Git N’ Go on S. Jefferson Ave. on March 12, 2023. Officers arrived to find a victim with a gunshot wound to the chest.
The victim told police that he and Cannon had argued before the shooting.
