Christian County bridge to permanently close

CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Mo. — The Green Bridge in Christian County is about to be no more.

The Christian County Highway Department announced that the bridge on Smyrna Road that goes over the Finley River will be shut down for good after 6:00 a.m. on Feb. 8, 2024. The county is urging drivers to find an alternate route.

The closure comes after MoDOT officials told Christian County that the bridge needs to be closed since the structure is now unsuitable for traffic. Christian County does not expect repairs to be made to the existing bridge.

A new bridge for the area is planned and funds have been issued toward designing the project. The county hopes construction will be underway sometime in 2024.
