Missouri’s mandatory school age could be lowered by two years; Springfield parent voices concerns

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Springfield parents are concerned that the age at which they send their kids to school could soon change. Lawmakers are pushing to lower the age in Missouri to 5 years, which would no longer give parents the choice to send their kids to school later at age 7. The current law in Missouri gives parents the choice to wait until age seven to send their child to school, according to the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). Multiple bills being discussed at the Missouri State Capitol right now could change the current law. Some of the legislation currently being heard are HB 2177, HB 2323, and HB 2125.
