SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Over the weekend, a 5.1 magnitude quake shook eastern parts of Oklahoma, with some in far southwestern Missouri feeling a little of the shock. The earthquake was weaker than many in southern Missouri, and the Missouri Bootheel felt more than 200 years ago. Between December 1811 and February 1812, three earthquakes along the New Madrid Fault ranged between magnitudes 7 and 8. That damaged settlements along the Mississippi River with other damage, and people felt the quakes hundreds of miles away.
