Springfield Fire Department warns of the dangers of cooking fires

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – From 2017 to 2019, the U.S. Fire Administration says a yearly average of 187,000 fires across the U.S. were caused by cooking. These fires caused an estimated 165 deaths, $444 million in property loss, and 3,325 injuries on an annual basis. On top of all of that, these are close to half of all house fires every year. Whether from the stove or the oven, it’s a problem Battlefield Fire Captain Justin Stevens sees every year.
