One of two final phases of Republic Road Widening complete

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – After nearly 11 months of construction, work continues on the Republic Road Widening Project. The estimated completion date was in December. But, it will be another few months before the intersection of Republic Road and Campbell Avenue is complete.

”Just how busy that intersection is, that’s where essentially some of the challenging aspects of it [are],” City of Springfield Professional Engineer Nicholas Edelman said. “Just a pure volume of traffic, and utility coordination. A number of utilities had to be moved or relocated, that kind of thing.”

The city said the improvements should make a big difference in easing rush hour traffic in this busy part of town.

“We’re working on the west side of Campbell right now and on Republic Road,” Edelman said. “There’ll be some concrete paving going on in the next few days and then the next week. So you should see some improvements over in that northwest quadrant over there by Bank of America.”
