‘Threatening’ social media post prompts police presence at Republic High School

Shortly after noon Thursday, parents and employees of Republic High School were notified that police had been summoned to the campus to investigate a “threatening” social media post.

No details were provided about the nature of the threat.

At that time, families and employees were told Republic police officers were investigating and two students had been identified and were being questioned in connection with the post.

The post was deemed to not be credible, the district said.

In a follow-up message to families and employees at 1 p.m., the district provided reassurance that students and staff were safe.

The message read, in part: “Earlier today, there was a police presence at Republic High School as law enforcement officers investigated a threatening social media post that was made. Representatives from the app that was used alerted the Republic Police Department, which contacted our school resource officers.”

The district confirmed that the two individuals questioned in the incident were students.
