Local animal foster nonprofit closes intakes amid caretaker shortage

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Springfield-based foster rescue organization Rescue One has decided that it cannot take any more animals in at the moment due to a shortage of fosters and resources.

According to Rescue One, the decision was not made lightly, but they are currently overwhelmed with the number of dogs they have had to take in lately, and they do not have the fosters and resources to effectively take care of them all.

Rescue One says 15 dogs in their system are forced to be in kennels for 22 hours a day instead of with a foster, including Rizzoli, who has been waiting 317 days for a permanent home. They also have to deal with six adopters returning their dogs this week.

Rescue One says an animal having a foster is very important to help them recover from the terrible hardships they had to go through, as it could be the difference between a dog being adopted or becoming unadoptable.

However, there are many ways to help Animal One so they can return to taking in and fostering more rescues. This includes signing up to foster, adopt, or volunteer to care for these animals at rescueonespringfield.com , donating supplies from their Amazon wishlist , or donating directly to Animal One at rescueonespringfield.com/donate .
