Road crews coming in at midnight for winter weather

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The City of Springfield and MoDOT are preparing to treat or plow the streets overnight as winter weather creeps in.

“We do plan on coming in at midnight tonight and having a full response,” Springfield Public Works Superintendent of Streets Colten Harris said. “This looks like it could be a wet snow. So, we’ll be careful to lay treatment down before if we see too much precipitation will avoid that.”

Harris said the department has been watching the forecast for Sunday night for the last eight days.

“We just want to be prepared in case it does happen to be that event where we get covered in bunch of snow,” Harris said. “We want to be ready and do the best we can to have the roads cleared by rush hour in the morning.”

So far this year, Harris said Springfield Public Works has responded to four winter weather events, not including Sunday’s event.

“We’ve had a couple of measurable events so far,” Harris said. “Most of our events have been on the smaller side in the sense that we just have to treat our bridges and our hill rounds.”
