Monday, February 12: Snow today, spring temperatures tomorrow

A winter wonderland developed over much of Southwest Missouri Monday morning as a storm passed through the region. Bands of heavy snow blanketed much of Southwest Missouri and Northwest Arkansas with inches of snowfall. The heavier amounts fell near and south of I-44 and west of Hwy. 63 with little to nothing elsewhere.

Highest totals were reported in Barry and Christian Counties with 6″ in Clever and also Madry. There was quite a bit of variance though. Springfield ranged from over an inch to the north to about 4″ on the south end of town. Afternoon sunshine and temperatures well above freezing were already making quick work of this morning’s snow.

No major issues are expected tonight, but black ice is possible on roads where snowmelt is occurring. Slick spots could also develop in parking lots and sidewalks later tonight as temperatures drop below freezing. There could also be some patchy fog in those same areas.

Sunshine and southwest winds will push temperatures close to 60° Tuesday afternoon after a cold start. The quick rebound in temperatures will make quick work of the snow that still remains.
