New retailer Gabe’s coming to Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Retailers like T.J. Maxx, Burlington, Marshall’s, and Ross will soon have some new competition in the Ozarks.

An “off-price” department store chain called Gabe’s has announced it is opening a new store in the city.

According to a Gabe’s spokesperson, the store will be at 1535 E. Battlefield Road in the space now occupied by Old Time Pottery, a chain acquired by Gabe’s in 2023. The conversion of the store is already underway and a banner outside announces the changeover.

The new retailer is planning an early March opening though an exact grand opening date has yet to be announced.

The West Virginia-based retailer specializes in clothing and home decor. Its 128 stores are concentrated in the eastern states.

Gabe’s first Missouri store opened in St. Charles in the summer of 2023. The Springfield store would be the farthest-west for the company.

Gabe’s tells KOLR 10/FOX 49 that its stores carry a variety of items. While the Springfield store will replace Old Time Pottery, that name is not going away. Instead, it will become one of Gabe’s private store brand labels.
