Springfield restaurant put on risk control plans for pest control, cleaning violations

A Springfield restaurant has been put on two risk control plans following a failed re-inspection this week, according to Feb. 12 Springfield-Greene County Health Department food inspection reports.

A risk control plan is implemented when a facility has three of the same priority violations in a row, in an effort to help a restaurant create a new habit. A priority violation is one that impacts the safety of the food.

Sam’s Southern Eatery, 1631 N. Glenstone Ave., will have weekly compliance checks starting the week of Feb. 26 due to repeated pest control and cleaning violations. During a Feb. 12 re-inspection, the restaurant “had glue traps that had a great accumulation of dirt and debris/mouse feces” and “mouse feces on grease machine, on and under chest freezer, bottom shelf of prep tables, etc.” according to the report. The restaurant was cited last week for the same violations.

Food inspections take place one to three times a year, depending on the type of food served, the population served, difficulty of food preparation and past history. Restaurants preparing food from raw ingredients are inspected more often “than convenience stores that serve only non-potentially hazardous foods, such as popcorn and soda,” according to the Springfield-Greene County Health Department.
