Ozarks Tech plans to hire retired Springfield Police major to oversee safety, security

Ozarks Technical Community College wants to hire a recently retired Springfield Police major to oversee safety and security for its entire system.

A recommendation to hire Stacey Parton for the job will go before the Ozarks Tech Board of Trustees this week. The meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Parton retired Aug. 22 from the Springfield Police Department after 25 years of service. His last role was as the Uniform Operations Commander.

“Congratulations to Maj. Parton. As a humble servant of our community, I commend his dedication to the profession and to the Springfield Police Department,” Chief Paul Williams said in a news release at the time. “I am proud to have worked with him and wish him the best of luck in retirement.”

Parton joined the police department in 1999 as a graduate of the 45th police academy. He spent the early part of his career in uniform operations and the special investigations unit.

He rose through the ranks, retiring with the rank of a major, after overseeing critical units including the traffic section, crime analysis unit and the crimes against property unit.
