Wednesday, September 18 forecast: 90s not gone just yet

Today will be warm as late summer heat continues to build in across the area. High temperatures today will land in the upper 80s with mostly sunny skies except for a few afternoon clouds. Highs in the low 90s will be common on Thursday and Friday getting within a few degrees of records. More summerlike levels of humidity will also return by the end of the week.

The late summer surge will linger into the weekend but will likely be blunted by increased clouds and rain chances thanks to an approaching cold front. This will make temperatures tricky to pin down but generally look for lows in the upper 60s and highs in the upper 80s on Saturday and Sunday.

Our odds for rain are also starting to look better organized this weekend, especially on Sunday. Saturday may also see some isolated rain and storms making it difficult to time out a better time for outdoor activities.

The longer-range pattern is looking a little more clear today with a trough expected to get a good foothold in the East next week. This would open up the pipeline for some fall air to flow in throughout the week next week.
