As a tropical storm has strengthened into Hurricane Helene along the west coast of Florida, southwest Missouri may also be affected as the storm moves inland. Mark Burchfield, lead meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Springfield, said the storm will increase rain chances in the Ozarks beginning late Thursday into Friday and possibly further into the weekend. Most of the bad weather will remain east of Springfield, with no thunderstorms expected locally.
