Meet the candidates running to represent Webster County in Missouri House

Missouri House of Representatives District 129 covers almost all of Webster County. In the primary, only one candidate from each party ran for the seat.

John F. Black, Republican

The incumbent in the race, Black worked as an attorney and chemical engineer prior to being voted into the legislature in 2018. He served as general counsel for City Utilities and Southwest Missouri State University, now Missouri State University. This past legislative session Black sponsored a bill proposing to ask voters whether the Missouri Constitution should be harder to amend via initiative petition , though it failed to gain approval before the end of session. He is a member of the Methodist Church and previously served on the Marshfield School Board and the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce. He lives in Marshfield with his wife Cynthia. Together they have six children between them.

Louise Hansen, Democrat

Small farm owner and Red Cross worker Hansen grew up near Marshfield before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1974. She spent six years in active duty and retired in 1997 as a captain at the U.S. Army Reserve. After her active duty, Hansen received a bachelor’s degree in agricultural business while simultaneously enrolled in ROTC and was commissioned in the Ordnance Corps. She has volunteered with the Red Cross’s Service to the Armed Forces Program since 2015 and is a member of the Women Veterans of Southwest Missouri, American Legion Post 1215. Some of her platform points include expanding Medicaid, improving rural healthcare access and safeguarding the environment.
