Springfield man accused of killing another in 2022 granted bond

OZARK, Mo. — A Springfield man accused of shooting and killing another man in 2022 has been granted bond.

Matthew Dedmon was charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action after killing Joe Newburn. Online records show Dedmon was back in court on Oct. 1 and bond was set at $30,000.

Bond documents say Dedmon will be required to wear a GPS and will remain on house arrest until further order of the court. He will only be allowed to leave for court appearances and for emergency medical attention.

In May of 2022, Ozark Police officers were called to 107 W. Church St. to investigate a shooting. A probable cause statement says police spoke with Dedmon and several witnesses who said Dedmon drove his truck to the location to speak with his wife.

Documents say Dedmon intended to confront Newburn, who Dedmon believed was having an affair with his wife. Police accused Dedmon of shooting Newburn in the chest three times, killing him, then putting the gun back in his truck.
