Friday, October 11 – Record heat and Northern Lights incoming

TGIF! It’s finally Friday. Not only is it Friday, we could see the Northern Lights again in the Ozarks. What luck!

The Northern Lights lit up the night sky beautifully on Thursday night. I’ve seen many stunning pictures. If you missed it, here’s your chance. When it comes to the Aurora Borealis, it’s difficult to pinpoint when and where they will be. Once we hear reports from Europe later today, we get a better idea of what we can expect in the United States.

The Space Weather Prediction Center has issued a K index of 8 (out of a scale of 9). This means the line of sight is through the middle part of the country, including Missouri. Clear skies on Friday night will lead to perfect viewing conditions in the Ozarks.

If you are heading out this evening, it will start off warm, but when the sun goes down before 7 p.m., it will cool down quickly. It’s hoodie weather for Friday night football.

The heat is on for Saturday. Temperatures will be nearly 20° above average and setting records across the Ozarks. We have forecasted 91°, which will not only set a record for October 12th, it will also set a record as the latest 90° temperature ever recorded in Springfield.
