Brothers share story of survival after being swept by flood waters

WRIGHT COUNTY, Mo. — Heavy rainfall this week caused flooding across southwest Missouri creating dangerous conditions on roadways east of Springfield.

Two men from Wright County survived a dangerous situation after their car was swept away by flood waters Tuesday near Beaver Creek in Wright County. It’s the same flood water that took the lives of two poll workers.

“God was really the reason there. He was there. We were praying the whole time,” said Tony and Carmine Ariola. The brothers knew heavy rainfall might cause issues on their drive to work Tuesday morning, but they underestimated just how much flooding there was in rural Wright County.

“My brother told me we got to that bridge and he said, ‘Roll down your window and see if you can see or hear any water crash in water or anything like that.’ Roll my window down. I’m looking and listen and can’t hear nothing. And as soon as he said, ‘You hear anything,’ I said, ‘Nope.’ And that’s it. Boom! Hit that water. It was probably a foot and a half deep,” said Carmine.
