Springfield P&Z Commission votes to reject 40-home development in Chimney Hills area

A proposal to build single-family homes in southeast Springfield ran into stiff opposition from Galloway area neighbors at a recent Planning & Zoning Commission meeting .

City staff who reviewed the plans recommended that the commission approve the project, which would add 40 single-family homes on 8.69 acres near the Chimney Hills neighborhood. But after hearing from more than a dozen neighbors who raised concerns about density, traffic and storm water, a majority of commissioners voted against the subdivision plan, which could head to City Council in the new year.

JCRS Development LLC is looking to build 40 single-family homes as part of its Chimney Rock development in the southeast area of Springfield, southwest of the Battlefield Road and Lone Pine Avenue intersection and southeast of The Venues church.

What are neighbors concerned about?

More than a dozen residents of the Chimney Hills and Chimney Hills Place neighborhoods spoke during the Dec. 19 meeting, adding to extensive correspondence the commissioners said they received.
