ST. LOUIS — There’s a new push to buy back vacant properties that haven’t seen development in years in north St. Louis.
The Land Clearance for Redevelopment Authority, which is staffed by the St. Louis Development Corporation, began the effort for dozens of properties in north city neighborhoods along Cass Avenue, Elliot Avenue, Laflin Avenue, Magazine Street, Sheridan Avenue, Howard Street, and other streets.
Mayor Tishaura Jones and Alderman Rasheen Aldridge who represents Ward 14 are behind this push as well. SLDC sent letters for 87 properties offering over $1 million to buy them with a 60-day notice through eminent domain. A majority of them are owned by developer Paul McKee’s Northside Regeneration LLC. Northside Regeneration, according to its website, is a “large-scale and holistic transformation of a two-square mile section of north St. Louis City.”…
