The U.S. Postal Service is angling to honor fishing history with a new series of stamps featuring some of the most iconic lure designs of all time. The Freshwater Fishing Lures stamps were dedicated at Johnny Morris’ Wonders of Wildlife National Museum and Aquarium in Springfield, Missouri, on March 13.
“With these stamps, the Postal Service celebrates the beauty and ingenuity behind some of America’s most successful lures,” says John DiPeri, USPS Western Region vice president. DiPeri was joined by representatives from the Johnny Morris Foundation, Bass Pro Shops and the fishing and conservation communities at the ceremony.
The stamps showcase five popular lure designs through striking close-up photographs, including crankbaits, poppers, spoons, spinners, and topwaters. Each has a unique history and has played a significant role in the evolution of fishing as a sport.
