Ag teacher Prewitt no longer employed by Mt. Vernon R-5 School District

Longtime agriculture educator Steven Prewitt is no longer employed by the Mt. Vernon School District. His last day on the job was March 4, according to Mt. Vernon School District Superintendent Scott Cook. Cook, however, wasn’t able to give any details on Prewitt’s departure.

“Mr. Prewitt is no longer employed by the district. Beyond this confirmation, I am unable to provide information regarding individual personnel matters,” Cook wrote in an email response to questioning on the matter.

An obtained document from the Missouri Department of Social Services dated Feb. 20, 2025 describes a report from two students who alleged sexual abuse from Prewitt.
