City of SGF bumps city manager salary to $100K more than KC, $200K more than STL

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Springfield City Council has approved a significant salary increase for its vacant city manager position, boosting the base pay to $350,000.

Springfield City Council has not responded to multiple requests from Ozarks First Investigates for comment about the decision to increase the city manager salary drastically following former City Manager Jason Gage’s departure in January 2025.

The salary hike places Springfield’s offer above that of similar positions in larger Missouri cities. Kansas City, which is also in the process of hiring a new city manager, has advertised a salary range of $250,000 to $325,000…
