The City of Springfield has begun its tours for residents interested in learning about the Noble Hill Landfill. The city says the tours are educational, and shows people where their waste goes, and how much goes into running a landfill. Tour goers loaded up at the Environmental Resource Center and were bussed to the landfill.
Some tour goers raised concerns about the amount of trash being accumulated. This year, the city announced that space created in 2019, space meant to last 100 years, is already half full, due to increase amount of trash.
“The thing that surprised me the most is that the trash will only last for 50 years, so we’re going to have to come up with another solution,” Ashley Loeb said. “I think when people throw away their trash, they just throw it away. They don’t think about it, but when you come on this tour, it opens up your eyes to like, ‘oh this is a big deal.”…
