Storm damages trees at Dickerson Park Zoo in Springfield, Mo.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – The Dickerson Park Zoo will reopen on Saturday as crews work to clear many downed trees.

The zoo lost power on Tuesday during the storms, and the damage has forced it to close. Most of the damage was done to the Rhea Yard in the southwest part of the zoo in the South America section.

”You know, the great thing is that no humans or animals were injured. We actually practice for all kinds of natural disasters,” said Joey Powell of the Dickerson Park Zoo. “That’s part of our accreditation, several times a year we have to practice for things like this. So, on Tuesday, we just got to put that practice into place, and everybody knew what to do. All guests and staff were moved to safety, and that’s the most important thing.”…
