Summit in Springfield wants to raise awareness for a deadly drug

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Just 2 milligrams of fentanyl can be deadly, and one non-profit is hosting a two-day summit in Springfield to teach the community about the dangers and debunk myths about it for law enforcement.

Only 2MG is hosting it at Evangel University. Over two days, people can attend twelve different sessions on topics like debunking myths, combating online trafficking, substance abuse awareness, and how to talk to kids about the crisis. Education on fentanyl is important because the drug can affect anyone, even those who don’t know it.

“The majority of those folks that are dying every year have no idea that they’re getting fentanyl,” said Brian Townsend, the president of Only 2MG. “They don’t want fentanyl, but only two milligrams is enough to kill the average human being, and they’re dying every single day. These aren’t just numbers, these are family members, these are loved ones, these are neighbors. This poison severely impacts our communities, and we need to eradicate it.”…
