Family, developers strike a deal over gated community planned around 200-year-old cemetery

A plan to maintain access to an almost 200-year-old family cemetery surrounded by a planned subdivision in southeast Springfield won the approval of the city’s Planning & Zoning commission May 8.

It was a repeat appearance for the project, which P&Z first considered in March. The proposal reached Springfield City Council in April but council members remanded the issue back to the commission after the Doran family raised concerns about future access to the burial site and a lack of communication with the developers.

Dubbed Hidden Gem Estates, the preliminary plat for a proposed 18-home subdivision at 6116 S. Farm Road 175 includes private roads with gates that would restrict access to the Doran family cemetery. The subdivision south of Evans Road is being pursued by TAG Property Development LLC, registered to local realtor Terri Herman, according to the Missouri Secretary of State business database, along with Gary Herman of Herman Custom Critical Homes…
