Former Springfield USPS employee pleads guilty to stealing, selling mail

A Springfield man has pleaded guilty in federal court to burglarizing a local post office and stealing mail.

Zachary Walker, 38, admitted to breaking into the Springfield post office at 1442 S. Glenstone Ave. and stealing mail to resell items on the internet. As a former employee of the U.S. Postal Service, Walker used his knowledge of building security to gain unauthorized access to the post office and mail, federal prosecutors said in a news release.

According to the plea agreement filed in federal court, local law enforcement received a confidential tip about Walker regularly burglarizing the post office. As a result, a hidden camera was installed at the post office, later capturing Walker illegally entering the Glenstone post office.
