More rain possible as severe weather looms

This week will have you reaching for the sunscreen and cranking up the fans as true summer conditions finally settle into the Ozarks.

Temperatures today remained on the cooler side as overcast skies dominated for much of the day. Those clouds will hang around for tonight, and we’ll have to watch for the development of patchy fog for the morning hours.

Expect a fair mix of sun and clouds on Monday, truthfully, probably more clouds than sunshine, especially to start the day. High temperatures will easily climb into the 80s, with “feels-like” values flirting with the 90-degree mark by late day.

Given the humid air mass over the region, a spotty afternoon shower can’t be ruled out. Any isolated storms could bring a brief but locally heavy downpour, a pattern likely to repeat on both Monday and Tuesday.

Rain chances increase Wednesday as a cold front pushes across the Ozarks. The setup may support some severe weather to end the day. Hail, damaging winds, and localized flooding will be the main threats. Tornado potential appears low at this time due to weak low-level wind shear.

The muggy, soupy air sticks around for most of the week, with dew points expected to stay in the oppressive range. By the end of the week, we’ll need to watch for heat index values potentially exceeding 100°, as actual high temperatures are projected to soar into the 90s for the first time this year…
