Springfield man sentenced after illegally acquiring firearms in 2023

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A Springfield man has been sentenced in federal court after illegally acquiring firearms in 2023.

According to a United States Department of Justice press release, DeSean Franklin, 24, was sentenced to 78 months in federal prison without parole, followed by three years of supervised release.

Franklin first pleaded guilty to the crime on Nov. 25, 2024, with one count of conspiracy to traffic firearms. Franklin confessed to conspiring to receive a firearm from another person, knowing that he was prohibited from having one.

Franklin is one of three defendants who have pleaded guilty to trafficking firearms. Joseph Johnson pleaded guilty on May 20, 2024, and was sentenced to five months, while Raimiya Tyson pleaded guilty on Dec. 17, 2024, and was sentenced to 19 months…
