After eight years, the City of Springfield is taking another shot at promoting redevelopment of Kearney Street. City staff held a public input meeting at Doling Park’s Northview Center on Tuesday, June 24 to discuss a redevelopment plan that is expected to go to City Council for approval this fall.
Like the corridor’s 2018 redevelopment plan — which expired in 2023 — the project aims to breathe new life into the street by offering tax incentives for building projects that meet certain standards and goals.
Reports completed for the 2017 plan designated the corridor as blighted, with a majority of buildings deteriorating in some way.
