OZARK, Mo. — The two people who were killed in a head-on collision near Highlandville Monday night have been identified as an off-duty Christian County deputy and his wife.
According to a press release from the Christian County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), off-duty Deputy Sheriff Michael E. Adams, 52, was in a vehicle driven by his wife Ashley, 45, when they were hit on Melton Road at around 8:50 p.m. by a suspected impaired driver who had previously fled from law enforcement. Both Mike and Ashley Adams died at the scene and were taken to the Coroner’s Office.
Adams’ four-month-old grandchild was in the vehicle during the crash. The child was sent to the hospital and is currently in serious but stable condition. The other driver in the crash was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Deputy Sheriff Mike Adams has served as a member of the Christian County Sheriff’s Office’s Patrol Division since Nov. 7, 2022. He was also an Air Force veteran who was with the Scott County Sheriff’s Office and the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Office before moving to the Christian County area with his wife.
“Mike was one of those guys that no matter what the situation was, or he was asked to do, you could count on him,” Sheriff Brad Cole said. “The loss of Deputy Adams and his wife is a profound tragedy for our agency and the entire community.
