Trailers haul horses and history to the Spring Creek Saddle Club grounds. More than six decades have passed since the club had its start in Hurley, a tiny community with a school, a few churches, a volunteer fire department, a recently reopened cafe (as of yesterday!), and about 175 people in Stone County, Missouri.
I saw those generations of tradition last night at the saddle club’s “shodeo,” an event which primarily featured kids and their horses.
It’s an overstatement to say my knowledge of horses is limited. My time riding these animals ended as a child when I fell off one of them and decided this pastime wasn’t for me…
