SPD promotes Ofc. Lockett to Sergeant, first African American to hold rank

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Springfield Police Department (SPD) has proudly announced the promotion of Ofc. Jeremiah Lockett to the rank of sergeant.

With this promotion, Lockett becomes the first African American in the department’s history to achieve this rank, according to an SPD news release.

“With 14 years of dedicated service with the Springfield Police Department, Lockett consistently demonstrates exceptional leadership and commitment to the community,” the release said. “As sergeant, Lockett will supervise a squad of south Springfield patrol officers in the Uniform Operations Bureau.”
