Gov. Mike Kehoe celebrated accomplishments during his first legislative session in the role, touting public safety legislation, improvements to childcare policies and tightening of state spending during his State of the State address Monday, July 28, in Springfield.
While local leaders celebrated legislation allowing Missouri State University to offer doctoral degrees and providing additional resources for law enforcement and children’s behavioral health, there were plenty of other local initiatives and programs that were vetoed by Kehoe from the state budget. Springfield’s nonprofit sector was the most impacted by funding cuts.
“This was all done to ensure that this budget reflects our long-term vision and commitment to limiting government and fiscal discipline,” Kehoe said during his address. “We cannot spend beyond our means, and we still have a long way to go.”…
