Back in February, we covered Target’s plans for a new Springfield store. Construction has been moving forward at the southeast corner of West Sunshine Street and West Bypass, but months later, the company has yet to announce when it will open.
The 148,000-square-foot store is part of a larger retail development on Springfield’s west side. Reports earlier this year noted that walls were already rising, confirming steady progress. Target’s corporate “Upcoming Stores” page continues to list the project as “future,” with no official timeline for completion.
Location
This section of Springfield has transformed from open fields in the 1990s into a busy retail corridor. The Target site is positioned at one of the city’s major intersections, expected to draw shoppers from across the region once doors finally open.
