City of Springfield provides update on storm debris pickup

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The City of Springfield is updating residents about its plans for cleaning up storm debris from the April 29 and June 29 storms.

Springfield Public Works projects that debris has been picked up in 77% of Zone 1 and 57% of Zone 3, totaling an estimated 11,807 cubic yards of storm debris so far. Debris pickup in those areas will continue through August 29, the City says.

Public works will begin debris pickup in Zone 2 next week, from August 25 to 29, and residents are asked to have storm debris at the curb by 7 a.m. Monday. Zone 4 is scheduled to have its debris pickup from Sept. 1-5.

“Collecting this volume of debris is a monumental undertaking,” says Public Works Assistant Director Eric Claussen in a news release. “It’s taking longer than we had anticipated to make our way around to every pile, partly because debris piles keep growing. Please have all debris to the curbline by the first day of the scheduled pickup week in your zone so it’s easier for us to assess equipment and crew needs.”…
