Springfield, Mo. – Showers and a few thunderstorms will track across southwest Missouri today, with some heavier pockets of rain possible near Joplin, Springfield, and into West Plains. The National Weather Service reports that most communities south and west of a Nevada-to-Springfield-to-West Plains line could see up to half an inch of rain, while isolated areas in extreme southwest Missouri and southeast Kansas may receive 1 to 1.5 inches.
According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, the quick-moving system will bring scattered downpours throughout the day, with thunder possible at times. Rain should taper off by tonight, but wet roads could slow travel on I-44 and U.S. 65 during the morning and evening commutes.
Drivers are urged to allow extra time and be cautious on rural roads where heavier rain may briefly pond. Outdoor events across the region should have a backup plan, as showers could move in quickly…
