Springfield man gets 32 years for meth and fentanyl conspiracy

A Springfield, Missouri, man has been sentenced in federal court for his role in a large-scale drug-trafficking conspiracy involving 19 defendants and narcotics valued at more than $1.8 million.

U.S. District Judge Brian C. Wimes sentenced 36-year-old Dontrell A. Powell on Sept. 11, 2025, to 32 and a half years in federal prison without parole. Powell pleaded guilty on Jan. 21, 2025, to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and possession of firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking.

The investigation began Jan. 17, 2024, when an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper searched a vehicle on a car hauler at a truck stop in Oklahoma City. Authorities discovered approximately 100 pounds of methamphetamine and two pounds of fentanyl pills concealed inside a subwoofer speaker box in the cargo area of a Dodge Magnum.
