SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – After 30 years, the United States Department of Agriculture announced it’s eliminating a report, which was designed to gauge the impact of food insecurity across the country.
According to the USDA, the Household Food Security Reports were first introduced in 1995 under the Clinton administration. Each year, the goal is to gain a clearer understanding of the number of Americans living with food insecurity.
According to the 2023 report, more than 13 percent of American homes are experiencing food insecurity. The 2024 report is scheduled for release in October, marking the last one.
The USDA said the reports are redundant, costly, and politicized, calling them nothing more than fear-mongering. The agency continued saying it was a way to increase SNAP eligibility and benefit allotments…
