Niangua Fall Festival, a community revival worth the time

Sometimes it’s easier not to care. It’s true in a lot of life, but I’m writing of our tiny rural communities – places that once were perhaps bigger and bustling, but today have dwindled as folks have moved on. We sigh and say, “Remember those better days?” before driving on to the larger place where we believe things are better.

Things could be done, perhaps – but it takes folks to try.

The place I’m thinking of today is Niangua, a tiny community in Webster County, Missouri. It has worked to keep its school, which recovered from threats to its future some 20 years ago. There’s a smattering of businesses, a volunteer library and a number of churches…
