Soggy start to an otherwise warm week

Fall hasn’t gotten off to its usual start. Warm, summer-like temperatures have lingered well into October, with little rainfall to speak of. But on Monday, for better or worse, that persistent pattern is expected to break.

A band of light showers is forecast to develop Sunday night and linger into Monday morning. While everyone has a chance of seeing some rain, the best opportunity for measurable rainfall will be along and north of I-44.

That said, don’t expect a washout as totals are looking very light. A few spots north of the interstate could pick up around a quarter inch, but most areas will only see a trace to a tenth of an inch.

Clouds will stick around early Tuesday before clearing as the day progresses. Temperatures will quickly bounce back to toasty levels.

Expect highs in the lower to mid-80s from Tuesday through Friday, along with a slight breeze from the south. While I’m not forecasting record highs, temperatures will be within striking distance of them.

Looking ahead, I’ve got my eye on the weekend, when another weather system is set to arrive. A cold front is expected to sweep across the Ozarks, bringing another round of rainfall and finally knocking our highs back down to more fall-like levels…
