SPRINGFIELD, Mo – The Greene County Sheriff’s Office says it is searching for the person responsible for leaving a pitbull mix trapped in a cage in South Springfield.
Early Friday morning deputies began investigating after a four-month old pit bull mix was found injured and abandoned near Farm Road 190 and Farm Road 143. The dog is now in the care of Rescue One, a local animal shelter.
Deputy Derek James with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office tells Ozarks First deputies will follow up on leads, and are looking to make an arrest for animal abuse and animal neglect.
Rescue One posted about the dog, today saying the dog was dumped near a cemetery. The dog, a female, is covered in wounds and mange, according to the shelter. Staff is providing her an around the clock treatment plan. They have named her Petunia Pig, and anyone can donate to her care. You can find those links to donate here.
Michelle Rehkop with Rescue One tells Ozarks First it will be at least a month before it is ready for adoption, but they are seeking a foster for the dog. Testing is still being done on the dog to determine the type of mange it has, and the team is treating it with medicated baths…
