SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Given the recent upgrade of most areas to extreme drought conditions, you will want to use extra caution while having a campfire.
First, check with your local community to make sure you are not in a burn ban. Assuming you are not in a burn ban, a fire pit is strongly recommended. Ensure your fire is at least 25 feet away from any structures such as your house, camper, or tent. If you are still planning a traditional backyard bonfire, make sure to keep plenty of water and your cell phone nearby.
