Windy, warm, and sunny as next cold front approaches

Wind is the top headline in today’s forecast. South winds will be strong at 15 to 25 mph, gusting to near 40 mph at times. A wind advisory is in place across western Missouri back into Kansas. A cold front will blow through the Ozarks this evening, and we’ll find a cooler day tomorrow.

The cold front later this evening will keep temperatures in the mid-40s tonight, but will lower temperatures on Tuesday into the mid-60s. Skies will stay sunny today, although a few clouds are possible when the front passes through, and a shower can’t be completely ruled out this evening south of I-44. Skies remain sunny through Wednesday.

Temperatures will get chilly on Tuesday night. Areas east of Highway 65 and low-lying areas may experience a light frost on Wednesday morning.

Our next chance for rain arrives on Friday morning and into Saturday. An area of low pressure will swing out from the west and bring wet weather to the Ozarks both days. Showery weather will end late on Saturday, and Sunday will find clearing clouds.

Early rainfall estimates for rain on Friday and Saturday indicate totals could be between 1″ and 2″. A good soaking! This should help a lot to reduce the drought.

Looking into next week, an additional storm system may impact the area on Monday. This storm could bring in some instability, and we’ll need to watch the risk for thunderstorms early next week…
